Around & About Uckfield Uckfield is a small market town lying off the A22 Lewes to London road. The name is derived from ‘Field on the river Uck’ which flows through the town. Uckfield remained a village until the coming of the railway in the 1850s, when it quickly grew into the small town it is today.
Uckfield has a good range of shops, restaurants and amenities, including the oldest continuously working cinema in Britain, dating from 1916.
Other towns in the area include Lewes, Haywards Heath, Tunbridge Wells and East Grinstead and the coastal resorts of Bexhill, Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings and Worthing.

Parks and Wildlife. Ashdown Forest Llama Park,Bentley Wild Fowl & Motor Museum, Drusillas Park, Heaven Farm.
Steam train enthusiasts. The Bluebell Line and Lavender Line are both close by.
Hiking and walking. The Ashdown Forest and the Cuckmere Estuary provide wonderful extremes.
Golf. The East Sussex National Golf Club has two championship courses, if you like something a little more relaxed there is the Piltdown Gold Club or The Crowborough Beacon Golf Club.
Opera and Music. The famous Glyndebourne Opera Festival, held each year between May and September, is about 15 minutes drive away.
Deception. The village of Piltdown, home to the most famous archaeological hoax in history, the Piltdown Man, is about 2 miles away (the culprits are still unproven).
Business. The many business parks in the area are located close to the town, making The Coach House an excellent base for people visiting Uckfield on business.
